In June 2011 I watched a documentary made by Terry Pratchett examining assisted death.  In the programme Terry visited the Dignitas clinic, in Switzerland; I found the programme moving and compassionate.  I remember after the programme coming upstairs to my desk and writing The Blue Box, it was one of those pieces that came from my gut.  I didn’t publish immediately, I put it away in my folder I have called ‘Flash Fiction Working On’ it felt too raw back in June 2011.  Interestingly now re-reading the text in preparation for publishing on the website, I have not changed a word of the original.  My instinctive response remains the same.
